Starting a new thing for my blog, since I am posting these to my Patreon as well. First, for all patrons, of course, but I've found that the little stories behind my stories are quite interesting too, so I'm adding them here for my blog readers a few weeks after the Patreon posts. This will be a series of author notes for my novels and stories, their concepts, ideas, motivations, etc. I hope these will be of interest to you all as we go along. I am starting with Hank Flynn since I am currently writing the second installment here on Patreon now.
Hank Flynn was my third novel, originally meant to be my second novel. It was a concept I had been discussing with my father after publishing Breach.
My parents were paranormal investigators for a very long time, but my father had been a student of the occult for most of his life. He had intended to help me with some of the research on the demons and their lore that I had planned to use in Hank Flynn, but he passed away before I began writing the story.
This put Hank on hold for over a year and I moved on to writing Beyond the Breach instead. I didn’t pick Hank up again until the following year, did the storyline in a different way, and published it as my third novel.
I kept the use of the Aramaic language that had been my father’s idea, and I enjoyed the research on how best to use it within the text. The way it is written is not the true spelling of the words but rather, the way they are pronounced within the language. Both methods are used in the teaching of the long dead language, and I thought that would be the best way for both my readers and my narrator to see it.
The biblical storyline is crucial to Hank’s mission in life and his origins, but it is not a religious story meant to convert or preach any belief to anyone. It is merely one story using another story to set up a backstory. The artwork of Hank and Josie that you see above I had created by author and artist Luke Hindmarsh as he created a video trailer for Hank Flynn that you can still view on my TikTok. The cover of course was created by Don Noble, for the original and for The Return.
I greatly enjoyed Hank as a character and as a story and I’m excited to get back into his world to bring you more. Currently, I have 5 full outlines for future Hank Flynn installments, and I hope you’re here for all of them.
