Just getting back into the swing of things after a great Scares That Care Authorcon event in Saint Louis last weekend, so I'll start with just two short reviews for recent reads. Both were incredible stories, each in their own brutal way.
Enjoy!
Odd Man Out
by James Newman
Quick, brutal, and unflinchingly human, Odd Man Out pens a story that could have happened to us all. For lack of a better comparisons, Stand by Me meets The Lord of the Flies, in this tale of fear, hate, and the very human need to fit in. I would consider this a study in human behavior, essential reading for us all.

Slashtag
by Jon Cohn
Fun read with an interesting concept, Slashtag mixes the cheesiness of reality tv with the terror and gore of a slasher, heavily flavored with the paranormal. Great characters, brutal kills, and a satisfying ending makes Slashtag a perfect spooky season read.
